Advanced Care Paramedic

Emergency Medical Responders (“EMR”)

Primary Care Paramedics (“PCP”)

Specialize in advanced care of medical and trauma patients with

a focus on advanced cardiac resuscitation. 


All PCP services, as well as: 

· Electrocardiogram rhythm

· interpretation

· Manual defibrillation

· Cardioversion

· Intraosseous placement and

· infusion

· External jugular IV lines

· Surgical airways

· Chest decompression

· Gastric tube and suction

· IV medications and infusion

· maintenance

· End-tidal carbon dioxide monitors

· IV colloid/crystalloid volume

· expanders

· Administration of medication by IV, oral,    inhalation, nebulization, endotracheal tube, bone marrow injection, IM, and rectal routes

Primary Care Paramedics (“PCP”)

Emergency Medical Responders (“EMR”)

Primary Care Paramedics (“PCP”)

Licensed to administer more advanced patient care then EMR.

Most paramedics that handle 911 calls are PCPs 


 All EMR services, as well as: 

· Extra glottic airway device

· Medicine administration by vein

· injection (“IV”), skin injection,

· muscle injection (“IM”), oral,

   under the tongue, inhalation and

· nebulization routes:

· Narcotic antagonists

· Histamine antagonists

· Bronchodilation agents

· Sympathomimetic agents

· Anti-hypoglycemic agents

· Maintenance of IV lines using 

  infusion pumps and devices

Emergency Medical Responders (“EMR”)

  Licensed to administer basic life-saving emergency medical care.

EMR’s are trained to respond to emergencies of all natures,

including working within the 911 system. 


 All OFAs services, as well as: 

 · Cervical collar application and

· spinal immobilization

· Patient handling, packaging, and transporting skills

· Blood pressure by

· auscultation/palpation

· Glucometer

· Emergency fracture

· immobilization

· Soft tissue injury treatment

· Administration of semi-automatic or automatic external defibrillator

Airway management 


Occupational First Aid (“OFA”)

Occupational First Aid (“OFA”)

Emergency Medical Responders (“EMR”)

Licensed to assess and manage traumatic injuries in the

workplace. OFAs are trained specifically to focus on the needs of

injured workers. 


 OFA licensed services include: 

· Scene assessment

· Vital signs

· Patient assessment

· Basic wound care

· Fracture management

· Basic airway management

· Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (“CPR”)
